Trump Dismisses Epstein Talk After DOJ Memo Sparks Backlash
President Donald Trump sharply criticized ongoing interest in Jeffrey Epstein after a Justice Department and FBI memo concluded that the disgraced financier died by suicide and left no client list behind.
The comments, delivered at a White House cabinet meeting on July 8, come as right-wing figures explode with disbelief over the findings. The DOJ review has infuriated prominent MAGA influencers and conspiracy theorists who accuse the administration of participating in a cover-up.
“Are You Still Talking About This Guy?” Trump Says
Visibly annoyed by a reporter’s question about Epstein, Trump scoffed:
“Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy’s been talked about for years.”
He dismissed the subject as outdated and inappropriate in light of “success and tragedy,” referencing events in Texas instead.
“It just seems like a desecration,” he said.
MAGA Movement Reacts with Fury
The MAGA base, once tightly aligned with Trump on deep state conspiracies, is now splintering—at least on the Epstein issue.
- Alex Jones, InfoWars founder, labeled the memo “over the top sickening” and mockingly said DOJ would next claim Epstein never existed.
- Laura Loomer, a far-right influencer, demanded Attorney General Pam Bondi resign, saying she’s “just another Fox News Barbie.”
- Tucker Carlson, once a top-rated Fox News host, accused Bondi of covering up serious crimes on his podcast.
What the DOJ Memo Says
The DOJ-FBI review, released July 7, reaffirmed that Epstein died by suicide in 2019 and asserted there is no evidence of a client list being maintained.
This directly contradicts long-standing beliefs among some conservatives who view Epstein as a central figure in elite, global criminal networks.
Pam Bondi Under Pressure
Attorney General Pam Bondi, who attended the cabinet meeting, declined to elaborate further. She has become a lightning rod for criticism from MAGA influencers who feel betrayed.
Despite the backlash, the White House has stood by the DOJ findings, signaling an attempt to close the chapter on the Epstein saga.
Where Does This Leave Trump?
While Trump has previously distanced himself from Epstein, the renewed attention and MAGA criticism may force him to navigate new fractures within his base, especially from conspiracy-heavy segments who feel abandoned.
