Sukiya fast-food closure: Nearly 2,000 locations shut down after a rat was reportedly found in a bowl of miso soup.
Rat Contamination Incident Sparks Outrage
The contamination occurred in January, but Sukiya did not confirm the details until March 30, referring to it as a “foreign object contamination.” The company acknowledged a second incident on Friday when a customer found another pest inside their meal. The store immediately shut down for an extermination process and issued a refund.
Company Takes Drastic Measures
To prevent further pest issues, Sukiya will close all standalone locations from March 31 to April 4. Some mall-based stores will remain open, but the company has pledged to strengthen food safety protocols.
“We deeply apologize to our customers for the great inconvenience and concern caused by this situation,” Sukiya stated.
