Cats observing suhoor: Some refuse to miss out, joining their owners for the pre-dawn Ramadan meal despite their love for sleep. From the UK to Canada, sleepy felines are fighting through their drowsiness just to be part of the pre-dawn meal.
Bella, the Sleepy but Curious Bengal
Bella, a 2-year-old Bengal from the UK, usually heads to bed at 10 p.m. sharp. But this Ramadan, she was shocked when her owners started waking up at 4 a.m. for suhoor.
“You can imagine how perplexed she was,” said her owner, Sanah.Bella remained up, watching bewildered while her family ate, determined not to miss it. She had enough nibbles to keep her content (and alert) even if she didn’t have a full supper.
Arya, the Family-Oriented Persian-Maine Coon Mix
Arya, a Persian-Maine Coon mix from Toronto, shares a similar FOMO struggle. According to her owner, Anum, Arya sleeps in her bed but wakes up with the family for suhoor, looking for treats.
“She always has to be wherever we are,” said Anum, adding that Arya has a special love for pureed snacks.
Millie, the Investigative Domestic Shorthair
Millie, a 2-year-old domestic shorthair, is known for her curiosity. When her family got up for suhoor, she instantly assumed it was breakfast time.
“She has a serious case of FOMO,” said her owner, Zaina Mirza. “If we’re up, she’s up. Ramadan is no different—she’s just following the vibes.”
