Mizu the goat has been crowned the winner of USA TODAY’s Favorite Pet contest! This friendly and charismatic goat from Florence, Texas, won over hearts nationwide.
A Special Goat with a Big Personality
Mizu, whose name means water in Japanese, is not just any goat. He is a beloved family member of Ace Lopez and enjoys spending time with the children in his household. At 2½ years old, Mizu’s daily routine includes playing, taking long walks, and helping trim the lawn—all while staying spoiled with his favorite treat, strawberries.
“He follows me everywhere,” Lopez shared. “If you’re happy, the goat is happy. If you’re sad, he notices, lowers his head, and seeks affection.
How Mizu Won the Contest
This year’s USA TODAY Favorite Pet contest received over 20,000 entries from all 50 states. Florida pet owners led with 6,325 entries, followed by Ohio (2,582) and Michigan (2,347).
The judging panel was led by Peggy, the British dog actress who played Dogpool in “Deadpool & Wolverine”. Among the entries, which included a variety of dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, bunnies, and even a spider, Mizu stood out for his charisma and individuality.
What Mizu’s Family Accomplished
Mizu’s family got :

- $5,000 gift card for pet supplies
- $5,000 donation to the Living Grace Canine Ranch in Georgetown, Texas
