Netflix Revisits the Astroworld Tragedy in New Documentary

Astroworld tragedy takes center stage in Netflix’s Trainwreck, released June 10, 2025, chronicling one of America’s deadliest concert disasters. The documentary series opens with devastating interviews from survivors, including Ayden, a close friend of victim Brianna Rodriguez.

Ten people were killed in a crowd surge at Travis Scott’s performance at the Astroworld Festival in November 2021, including Rodriguez, a 16-year-old junior in high school.

A Friend’s Painful Memory of the Crowd Surge

In the first episode, Ayden recalls being swept into a wave of people alongside Brianna. As they were knocked down, he heard her crying out in pain.

“I could hear her in pain… asking ‘help me get out,’” he says, describing the terrifying moment when the crowd pressure became overwhelming.

Crushed under layers of bodies, Ayden compared the feeling to “holding your breath underwater.” When he finally emerged, he panicked, desperate to locate his friend.

Frantic Search, Tragic News

Ayden described trying to stop the show, pleading with a cameraman for help, and feeling utterly helpless.

“I knew Bri was in that area still struggling,” he said.

He and his friends searched frantically, only to be told at the hospital that Brianna could not be saved.

“Everyone just dropped to the floor… I felt defeated.”

Who Was Brianna Rodriguez?

Rodriguez was a vibrant and talented dancer from Heights High School in Houston, Texas. Her family described her as full of life and joy.

“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts,” they wrote in a tribute. “She’s dancing her way to heaven’s pearly gates.”

She was among the youngest of the 10 victims who lost their lives that night.

How Many People Died at Astroworld?

During the November 2021 festival, 10 people died, and nearly 5,000 others were injured. Victims ranged in age from 9 to 27 years old. Axel Acosta is on the list.

  • Baig, Danish, 27
  • 23-year-old Rodolfo “Rudy” Peña
  • 23-year-old Madison Dubiski
  • 21-year-old Franco Patiño
  • Jurinek, Jacob, 20
  • Hilgert, John, 14
  • Bharti Shahani, age 22
  • Blount, Ezra, 9

Travis Scott’s Controversy and Legal Repercussions

Despite widespread criticism, a grand jury in 2023 opted not to indict Travis Scott. Scott claims that he was unaware of the suffering of the audience and did not hear screams for help during his performance.

The Trainwreck documentary reexamines such claims while incorporating victim testimony and behind-the-scenes looks from paramedics and staff.
