A Boston resident is urging pet owners to remain vigilant after her dog, Bruno, accidentally ingested rat poison while on a walk in the Brighton neighborhood.
The Incident
Heather Seeley and her beagle, Bruno, were on a routine weekend walk when the incident occurred. As Bruno sniffed through a pile of leaves, Heather noticed him chewing on something. Assuming it was a dog treat, she tossed it in a nearby trash barrel.
“I thought it was a dental treat because it was green and hard, like those that clean their teeth. I didn’t think twice,” Heather explained.
The following day, Bruno found another similar item, but this time he quickly chewed it before Heather could intervene. Alarmed, Heather retrieved the discarded item from the previous day and conducted an online search. To her dismay, it was rat poison.
Emergency Action
Heather acted quickly, rushing Bruno to emergency veterinary care. Blood tests confirmed that Bruno had ingested poison, and now he must be closely monitored to prevent any severe effects.
“I know the doctors are excellent, and I’m just hoping they can save my boy,” Heather said emotionally.
A Warning to the Community
Heather is now determined to alert others about the potential danger lurking in her neighborhood near Kilsyth Road.
“I have no idea who left these small bait blocks out in the open,” she shared.
The blocks, which resembled chalk or dog treats, were left on the roadside, posing a serious risk not only to pets but also to children.
Heather added, “I’m used to seeing rat traps that pets can’t get into. I’ve never seen anything like this before. I just want others to stay vigilant and protect their loved ones.”
