Amber Ruffin WHCA: Comedian Amber Ruffin is no longer the main act at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The decision comes after she publicly criticized the president, which increased tensions with the Trump administration.
WHCA Scraps Comedy Act
The WHCA announced on Saturday that Ruffin would no longer perform at the prestigious event, which celebrates White House journalists. In a memo to members, the association emphasized its commitment to maintaining an atmosphere free from political division.
“The focus is not on the politics of division but on honoring the incredible work of White House journalists,” the memo stated.
Trump Administration’s Reaction
Amber Ruffin WHCA: The White House quickly responded to the WHCA’s decision regarding Amber Ruffin’s removal as the headliner. Taylor Budowich, Trump’s deputy chief of staff, criticized the association for what he called a “cop-out” in an angry post on social media.
“No accountability at the WHCA, just a cop-out statement – pathetic!” Budowich wrote.
He also accused Ruffin of being “hate-filled” for her sharp critiques of Trump. Ruffin, known for her work on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, recently satirized Trump’s order to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
An Account of Conflicts
The connection between the Trump administration and the WHCA is tense. The White House has worsened the problem by attempting to regulate the press pool and blocking the Associated Press from reporting on specific occurrences.
Although popular comedians like Conan O’Brien, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart have performed at the event in the past. It is unclear if Trump will be there this year.
