A Historic Heavy Metal Farewell for a Cause
Ozzy Osbourne Black Sabbath charity concert at Villa Park raised $190M during their Back to the Beginning farewell show.
As a tribute to their distinguished career, the band organized one of the most successful musical charity events in history, drawing 40,000 fans in person and over 5.8 million viewers online worldwide.
Benefiting Causes Close to Ozzy’s Heart
All proceeds from the event will go to three charitable organizations:
- Cure Parkinson’s – a cause especially meaningful to Ozzy following his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2019
- Birmingham Children’s Hospital – a long-supported cause by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne
- Acorn Children’s Hospice – known for its compassionate pediatric care
The BBC confirmed it already informed the charities of their share, and Sheeba Ali from Birmingham Children’s Hospital called the news “a brilliant surprise.”
Star-Studded, All-Pro Bono Lineup
With Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine as music director, the lineup featured some of rock and metal’s greatest names—all performing pro bono. The energy and passion of the performers were matched by the generosity of the fans.
“We set out to not just create the greatest day in the history of heavy metal,” Morello wrote on Instagram, “we raised a ton of money for a great cause.”
The Legacy of the Prince of Darkness
This concert not only closed a chapter in music history but also cemented Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy as a humanitarian. His commitment to Parkinson’s research and children’s healthcare marks a turning point where heavy metal intersects with heartfelt advocacy.
With over $190M raised, Black Sabbath’s final act may well be its most noble.
